Advanced Life Support Refresher
Duration: 4.25 hours
This course is suitable for health professionals working in high-acuity settings such as community accident and medical clinics, independent midwives, paramedics, anaesthetic technicians, perioperative nurses, locum medical staff and others that already hold an advanced certificate and need to re-certify (note: This does not 'recertify' any NZRC courses). This course is recognised by the RNZCUC, ANZCA, RACS, and the NZDA as approved CME/MOPS activity. It is endorsed by The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) and approved for 8 CME credits for Maintenance of Professional Standards (MOPS), this course is also approved for Registrars in the GPEP programme. This course also meets the resuscitation training requirements for vaccinators.
Inclusions
- Adult/child & infant CPR with bag-valve-mask
- Use of suction and insertion of oropharyngeal airways
- Supraglottic airway device (eg. LMA/i-gel) insertion during CPR
- Overview of endotracheal intubation and wave form capnography
- Use of AEDs & manual defibrillation
- Synchronised Cardioversion & Transcutaneous Pacing
- ECG recognition
- Administration of emergency drugs
- Intraosseous access (some streams only)
- Adult and child cardiac and peri-arrest simulations
- Principles of crisis management and team work in a crisis
